Popular Spanish Pop Artists: The 10 Music Trends to Follow in 2022
This year’s list features the top performers from a wide range of Latin music genres, including pop, reggaeton Spanish music, R&B, regional Mexican, and tropical. We have some new predictions for which Latin music trends and popular Spanish pop artists will take off in 2022, which will maintain their momentum from 2021.
Alvaro Diaz (Universal Music Latino)
Alvaro Diaz’s “Problemón” featuring Rauw Alejandro has received over 640,000 video creations on TikTok. Before his viral success, “Chicas de la Isla,” off his 2021 studio album Felicilandia, Diaz had a taste of virality owing to his first-ever tune.
Dembow Goes Mainstream
The fast-paced, bouncy genre, based on Jamaica’s dembow riddim, has its roots in the Dominican Republic’s barrios. There’s little doubt that the genre is having a moment, with performers like El Alfa, Chimbala, and Tokischa, among many others, on the map.
Boza (Sony Music Latin)
In 2020, Boza’s dancehall single “Hecha Pa ‘Mi” debuted on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs, Global 200, and US charts. At the 2021 Latin Grammys, he was nominated for the best new artist. He’s currently making the rounds with “Ella” remixes.
Experimental Pop
With her chart-topping single “Telepata,” Kali Uchis pushed Latin pop back to the forefront. Camilo blended rock, folk, reggaeton, and disco to create experimental pop. “Demasiadas Mujeres” by C. Tangana established a high standard for what pop music might be.
Gera MX (ONErpm)
Gerardo Daniel Torres Montante’s stage name is Gera MX. In its 63-year existence, his song “Botella tras Botella” made the Hot 100 and selected as one of Billboard’s favorite songs of 2021. His background and interest in musicians like Molotov, Control Machete, and King Lil G, according to the former Latin artist on the Rise, impacted his career.
Emo Vibes
Emo music has been fully adopted by Wave Z, resulting in a new generation of performers. Sad sierreo musicians allow themselves to get exposed via extra profound heartbreak songs. Ivan Cornejo has topped Billboard’s Latin Songwriters list for October 30, 2021.
Jessi Uribe (Mano de Obra)
Yesid Eduardo Uribe Ordóez is a member of the expanding Colombian version of regional Mexican music. For more than 15 years, the 34-year-old has been a force in the genre and a pivotal person in bringing popular music to the public in 2022.
Tapping into Bachata
Rosalia and The Weeknd’s bachata collaboration landed at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs. For “Bebé,” C. Tangana and Nathy Peluso blended the genre with “Ateo,” while Ozuna collaborated with Anthony Santos for “Seor Juez.”
Keityn (Warner Music Latina/White Mascara)
Mauricio Cruz Moreno, better known as Keityn, is a Latin Grammy Award-winning songwriter. He collaborated on the song “Tusa,” which landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. In 2022, he plans to pursue a career as a singer.
The Rise of R&B
The song “Telepata” by Kali Uchi became viral. R&B rhythms are being experimented with by Paloma Mami, Dalex, Cazzu, Jona Camacho, and Georgel. For “Entre Nosotros,” LIT Killah enlisted the help of Maria Becerra and Nicki Nicole. This genre will achieve mainstream success, and the popular modern Spanish artists will take it to a new height.
